A Hampshire-based RICS MSc. Building Surveying Student with an interest in the historic and ecclesiastical built environment.

In 2026, after two decades in the maritime sector, I'm changing tack and studying for a RICS-accredited MSc in Building Surveying at the University of the Built Environment.

I’m based in Hampshire, England, and this website is where I will write about what I’m learning and provide a focal point for staying in touch with the people I'm meeting along the way.

If you're reading this, we've probably crossed paths online or at an event, so thanks for dropping in!

A commercial background with a conservation mindset.

My particular interest is the coastal, historic and ecclesiastical built environment, including maritime and defensive infrastructure, period homes, listed buildings, churches and chapels. After graduation, I intend to steer my career towards conservation and specialist heritage work.

The MSc and APC route calls for genuine breadth, though, and I really welcome that. Residential, commercial, and specialist instructions must all teach you something a narrower path wouldn't. The commercial experience I built in maritime trade (contract administration, asset and stakeholder management, costing decisions properly) travel across all of them.
