Note the daisy in the centre, a direct visual pun (or "canting arms") on the name of Bishop Robert Sherborne. Tudor heraldry was incredibly fond of wordplay, and this specific flower relates to Sherborne in two ways: The Linguistic Pun: In Old English and regional dialects, a daisy was often referred to as a "sherburn" or "shire-burn" (derived from words meaning "bright stream," where marsh marigolds and daisies frequently grew). The "Margarite" Connection: In broader medieval and Tudor symbolism, the daisy was known as the margarite (from the Latin margarita, meaning pearl or daisy). He made history in 1830 by becoming the world's first widely reported railway fatality. While attending the grand opening of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway, Huskisson stepped onto the tracks to shake hands with the Duke of Wellington. Tragically, the infamously accident-prone statesman failed to clear the line in time and was run over by George Stephenson's pioneering steam locomotive, the Rocket.
