SPAB Sussex Group: Behind the Scenes Visit to Knole House

  • Knole House Sevenoaks, England, TN15 0RP United Kingdom (map)

Overview

Joining the SPAB Sussex Group on a very special visit to Knole House.

Senior Building Surveyor, Tom Nesbit, will show us round the Conservation studios and some of the areas not usually seen by visitors.

Knole is an English Country house and former Archbishops Palace owned by the National Trust. It is situated within Knole Park, located immediately to the south-east of Sevenoaks in west Kent.

The current house dates back to the mid-15th century, with major additions in the 16th and, particularly, the early 17th centuries. Its Grade 1 listing reflects its mix of late-medieval to Stuart structures and particularly its central façade and state rooms. In 2019, an extensive conservation project, "Inspired by Knole", was completed to revitalise and develop the structures of the buildings and thus help to conserve its important collections.
